Term 4 Technology

In term 4 for 'See a need fill a need' my group are getting new bins for the school. As you can see we made a poster with all of our ideas on it. We did letters to the P.T.A for their perspective on the Idea.
I am very proud of how far we are with this project.
This poster was made by Jay, Liam, Marnie and Martine.

Why does baking soda react to vinegar?

I love making volcanos at place centre it is so interesting to see it explode with foam out of the top. Have you ever wondered why baking soda reacts to vinegar?Baking soda reacts with vinegar because of an acid based reaction.

Baking soda is scientifically known as sodium bicarbonate, vinegar is a acetic acid. This reaction creates carbon dioxide because when they combine they exchange atoms. In this case they exchange a proton. A proton is a subatomic particle that makes atoms. In this case it is very important or the two can’t react.

In other words baking soda acts as a base. Baking soda takes the proton from the vinegar which equals an acid. The reaction releases gas because when it receives the proton it transforms into water and carbon dioxide.

Baking soda is a sodium bicarbonate each molecule of which contains a sodium atom, an oxygen atom and a carbon dioxide molecule. Vinegar contains a acetic acid. Each molecule of which contains a hydrogen atom and a acetic ion. This process takes under 5 seconds.

This reaction is very popular in many different ways. For an example coke and mentos is very similar.

Glossary
  • Acid-a substance that can loose or donate a hydrogen atom.
  • Molecule-the smallest unit
  • Atoms-tiny particles
  • Particle-a very small portion of matter
  • Matter- anything that takes up space
  • Hydrogen atom-the lightest and most abundant element in the universe.
  • Carbon Dioxide-the air we breathe

Marnies MOTAT visit writing lazar maze

I feel a rope leering me closer to the gloomy curtain. Luckily, I have an inquisitive feeling upon me. My feet were like magnets clinging to whatever was inside.

Stimed at what I'm seeing, lazar lights were flickering everywhere - left, right and center. "Oh... now I'm dwelling. I have to embark who knows what I'm missing out on?" Simultaneously, I put on my courageous commando mood  Oh... that smell, that smell of waffles and yummy maple syrup. Suddenly I fall to my knee, not knowing what had hit me, oh wait that was me having fun. I fall to the ground with a big thud. Insensibly, I stand up in the middle of the room and touch everything I can. This amazing feeling is something that you would never want to let go of.

I get up, head for the door and remember that heavenly smell.

Production

My biggest challenge that I have overcome in the production is coping with all the changes made in the dances. I was the main character . I had to learn 17 lines off by heart and present them on stage with expression to the audience. I had to learn 5 dances, 3 of which I participated in while the others I pretended it was a dream. I think the production had a lot of character in it. So much was going on in just one dance. You could look everywhere and see something different. Kahikatea team has amazingly talented teachers and everyone should come to see and be inspired.

Chattering, my teeth grip my bottom lip as I wonder, "Should I? ...Should I not?" Bringing the mat up the steep stairs, I feel myself betray my choice. Wobbling sacredly, I climb  up the stairs to the fast slide. "I am going to kill you," cackled the slide as I hold my breath and jump in...

      Trust

Trust is earned not given...

In term 1 we were learning how to be Cyber Safe on our own computers. We were told to make a poster with a photo relating to a word and the word  had a message relating to it. We had a lesson on what the you tube rules should be.
